The Clean Water Initiative is at the heart of Mizizi Ya Mafanikio’s mission. In Tanzania, nearly 40% of people live without safe, reliable water—causing deadly disease and stealing hours each day from families, especially women and children.
Our aim at Mizizi Ya Mafanikio is to increase access to clean and safe water for the most affected communities in Tanzania—especially women, children, and vulnerable families.
With nearly 40% of the population lacking clean water, and over 33 million school days lost annually due to water-related illnesses, our Clean Water Initiative focuses on the areas most in need, working hand-in-hand with local communities to create sustainable, long-term solutions.
Since 2023, Mizizi Ya Mafanikio is working together with the Maasai community in Oldonyosambu outside of Arusha in Tanzania, to provide clean water to its population.
The community in this region have access to water from nearby Mount Meru, but the water contains high doses of fluoride and water-borne diseases, causing health deficiencies among the population. At Mizizi Ya Mafanikio, we saw first hands the affects of the water such as Skeletal fluorosis, one of the main diseases due to high exposure to fluoride in water.
In partnership with the local company Nanofilter, Mizizi Ya Mafanikio has supported in installing a water filters at the local schools, cleaning the water and making it safe to drink and cook with. The solution of Nanofilter, filters out the fluoride from the water and the water-borne bacteria. Currently we have installed several filters providing the community with 1000 L of clean water/day. Our aim and ambition is to install more filters to be able to serve the entire community living in Oldonyosambu.
For Christmas in 2023, we installed a filter with a local orphanage providing them with a clean water filter for the 65 children living there. Usa River is an area outside of Arusha, getting their water from Mount Meru, so it contains both high fluoride levels and bacterial levels such as typhoid. The filter will make sure the children gets access to clean and drinkable water making the children miss less school days and saves medical costs for the orphanage since the children have less sick days due to waterborne diseases.
