The Clean Water Initiative is at the heart of Mizizi Ya Mafanikio’s mission. In Tanzania, nearly 40% of people live without safe, reliable water—causing deadly diseases and stealing hours each day from families, especially women and children.
Our aim at Mizizi Ya Mafanikio is to increase access to clean and safe water for the most affected communities in Tanzania—especially women, children, and vulnerable families.
With nearly 40% of the population lacking clean water, and over 33 million school days lost annually due to water-related illnesses. Our Clean Water Initiative focuses on the areas most in need, working hand-in-hand with local communities to create sustainable, long-term solutions.

Since Mizizi Ya Mafanikio started the projects of Clean Water and installation of filtration systems at the end of 2023, 12 filters have been installed across the region of Arusha. From orphanages, to day cares, to primary schools, Mizizi Ya Mafanikio is currently supplying 4650 people in Northern Tanzania with Clean Water.
By working closely with the communities we collaborate with and having our team members regularly visit the installation points, we ensure that the filters are active and maintained to serve the communities we work with. With training of the importance of clean water with the local communities, the impact can be seen at the schools, where the children miss less school days due to water-borne diseases and can also have a higher level of concentration during class since they have enough water to drink during the school days.

To ensure that the filters are being installed at the places that need it, water testing is always performed before an installation. This gives an idea of the problems in the water before an installation is done and can also lead to modifications of a filter depending on if the water site has high fluoride levels, bacterial levels or both. A report is generated for each area, and after a decision is made on the priority of the installation point depending on what the tests have indicated.
Testing new sites is a crucial activity for Mizizi Ya Mafanikio to always have a list of potential installation points to know who is needing a filter. Sometimes, a happy surprise can be made that the water in an area is actually safe and clean for the people to drink, which they are informed on. But sadly, in Northern Tanzania and the region of Arusha, most areas have undrinkable water in relation to the WHO health standards.

An important step in ensuring durability and continuation of the filters, is to involve the communities in the maintenance and safe keeping of the filters. Training of the local community leaders, families and children about the health benefits of the clean water and the how to care for the filters, is what makes the projects successful. The lack of involvement of a community, will not lead to a sustainable project, which is why one member of the Mizizi Ya Mafanikio team is dedicated to train and help the communities with maintenance and continuous training and support.

Our goal is to provide 2,000 people daily with clean water.
During this phase of the projects, we are doing surveys for installation points for filters, testing water quality, checking requirements for installations such as water levels, etc.

Our goal is to provide 5,000 people daily with clean water, which would be 50% of our goal of providing 10,000 people with clean water daily.
As many installation points will have been determined and a continuous flow of new installations points, the ramp-up of installation of filters will be possible.

Our goal is to provide 10,000 people daily with clean water.
This is or short-term goal, but the ambitions of Mizizi Ya Mafanikio is to be able to provide clean water to everyone that needs it.
Clean Water is a Right, not a Privilege!
Since 2023, Mizizi Ya Mafanikio is working together with the Maasai community in Oldonyosambu outside of Arusha in Tanzania, to provide clean water to its population.
The community in this region have access to water from nearby Mount Meru, but the water contains high doses of fluoride and bacteria leading to water-borne diseases, and causing health deficiencies among the population due to long-term exposure to high fluoride. At Mizizi Ya Mafanikio, we saw first hands the affects of the water such as Skeletal fluorosis, one of the main diseases due to high exposure to fluoride in water.
In partnership with the local company Nanofilter, Mizizi Ya Mafanikio has supported in installing four water filters in the area at the local schools, cleaning the water and making it safe to drink and cook with. The solution of Nanofilter, filters out the fluoride from the water and the bacteria. The installed filters providing the community in the region with 3000 L of clean water/day.

For Christmas in 2023, we installed a filter with a local orphanage providing them with a clean water filter for the 65 children living there. Usa River is an area outside of Arusha, getting their water from Mount Meru, so it contains both high fluoride levels and bacterial levels such as typhoid. The filter will make sure the children gets access to clean and drinkable water making the children miss less school days and saves medical costs for the orphanage since the children have less sick days due to waterborne diseases.
We installed a filter at a day care in South Njiro providing around 35 children daily with clean water. The children at the day care have been fighting typhoid on a regular basis leading to sickness and high medical bills for the families. The filter will increase the children's health over time and financial relief for the families. The children will also be able to spend more time at the day care, learning and playing which is important for their mental health and education.
Two 1000 L water filters were installed at a pre- and primary school in Maji Ya Chai outside of Arusha giving access to clean water for 1200 students and their families. The area "Maji Ya Chai" is famous for high fluoride and bacterial levels, and the name of the town means "Chai Tea Water" due to its yellow milky color. This is the first installation done in this region but six more schools have been identified as potential installation areas since the entire area is suffering from the same problem with the water.
The school was an important first step to establish a good partnership with the area and an important school to start with due to its size, but also since they are young children with disabilities as boarding students. These students will now be able to have clean drinking water during the entire year.

The installation of a water filter for 600 people including maintenance to the longevity of the filter is £0,7 per user.
Even a small donation of £10 GBP helps towards our projects of continuing to install and maintain our filters in Tanzania providing children with clean water.
